Cool and refreshing like a shaded Myakka Hammock on a Florida summer day — our Myakka Hammock Cold Brew.
A medium-dark Guatemalan bean that delivers notes of caramel, citrus, chocolate, and subtle green tea. Medium-to-light body with gentle acidity makes it ideal for smooth, all-day sipping. Perfect for homemade cold brew and just as enjoyable hot or on the go. Choose the "French Press (Coarse)" grind for better cold brew.
Roasted in Longwood, FL.
A coarse grind allows slow, even extraction, prevents over-extraction and bitterness, and makes filtering much easier with less sediment. Avoid medium or fine grinds — they can make the brew muddy and overly strong.
Simple and Reliable Cold Brew Method (Immersion)
What you’ll need:
- Coarse-ground coffee (your Myakka Hammock Cold Brew works especially well)
- Cold or room-temperature filtered water
- Large jar, pitcher, French press, or cold-brew maker
- Fine-mesh strainer + cheesecloth, paper filter, or cold-brew filter
1:5 to 1:7 coffee-to-water by weight
(Example: 100g coffee + 500–700g water for concentrate)
(Example: 100g coffee + 500–700g water for concentrate)
Steps:
Dilute the concentrate with water, milk, or ice to taste (common starting point is 1:1 concentrate to liquid). Taste and adjust.
- Add the coarse-ground coffee to your container.
- Pour in the cold/room-temperature water and gently stir to fully saturate the grounds.
- Cover and steep in the refrigerator for 14–18 hours (12 hours minimum, 24 hours maximum). Fridge steeping keeps flavors cleaner and is safer.
- Strain thoroughly. For the cleanest cup, double-filter (first through a mesh strainer, then through a paper filter or cheesecloth).
- Store the concentrate in the fridge for up to 7–10 days.
Dilute the concentrate with water, milk, or ice to taste (common starting point is 1:1 concentrate to liquid). Taste and adjust.
Quick Tips for Best Results:
- Use freshly ground beans right before brewing for maximum flavor.
- Filtered water makes a noticeable difference.
- Don’t over-steep past 24 hours or the brew can turn bitter/astringent.
- For a lighter, more refreshing cup (matching the medium-to-light body and subtle acidity of the Myakka Hammock), lean toward the 1:7 ratio and a 14–16 hour steep.
- If you prefer a stronger concentrate for iced lattes or mixing, use 1:5 and steep closer to 18 hours.
